Character Name: Catarina Amanto
Character Age: Appears 20, is actually 400
Character Gender: Female
World Description: The world is very similar to a medieval Europe style. Magic and religion are two of the biggest things, as demons run rampant and angels are in high demand. Angels have also been known to have been captured by humans in magical barriers, both as a demon deterrent due to their divine nature consecrating the ground around them as a last resort to fight any major demons that escape from the lower realms. Gods also have their hands in things for their own benefit, and many choose champions among the mortal (but not necessarily human) on the planet. Catarina's own partner is one such champion, one for balance between the chaos and order, forced by some inner prompting to find places that are out of balance and to either bring more balance or inflict chaos in the area.
Both angels and demons breed with the humans as well, and there are many half breeds running around. Another thing to note is "crossbreed," when different types of demons have a child together. The resulting demon takes on the hunger of both parents as well as the weaknesses of each and none of the strengths. They are considered undesirable, weak, and many do not live unless taken in by a patron.
There are many religious groups, the pertinent one being the Pious. As a group, they do not follow one god, but allow any within their ranks to worship as they please. They take in orphans of both human and nonhuman, mortal and immortal, good and evil to teach them, and appear to be a group trying to do good under a nondenominational banner. They are actually looking for angels, intent on selling them to towns of the highest bidders.
Character Background: Catarina is a crossbreed, wolf demon and succubus. While she has basic demon abilities, such as slightly superhuman strength, speed, and healing, she is as frail as a succubus and has as much magic as a wolf demon (i.e. none). Her mother dumped her as soon as she realized that her little succubus to be would not have the magic needed and required meat as well as sex to survive. She would have died if not for a group of the Pious finding her and taking her in. There she learned how to fight, and learned she had a quick mind in battle and really liked to fight. There she also met Lauren, a girl who appeared to have little magic and always grated her the wrong way. But the sparring wasn't enough for Catarina, so for a little extra money she took up bounty hunting.
Big mistake. Her employers had been told what she was, and didn't want a demon running around, even a weak crossbreed like her. They hired a paladin to hunt her as well, knowing his holy blade would cause wounds on her person that would not heal and eventually kill her. Her first attempt ended against him, her meager skills no match to his lifetime of fighting. And she would have died, if not for Lauren's curious mind and sense of right and wrong. Lauren had even less skills at physically sparring, but she had a secret. She was an angel, her family having been killed in the attempts to capture them, and she had just awakened. Not just that, but the god of balance had its hand on her, giving her the power to kill the paladin. But these things come at a price, and her sense of self was quickly eroding away under her god's hand. There was only one way to save herself, and it saved Catarina as well. Lauren bound herself to Catarina, sharing a bit of her divinity with the demon and taking a bit of the evil into herself to keep herself from losing who she was. This caused Catarina's healing to finally kick in, albeit slowly, and soon the life-threatening wounds healed to nasty scars.
Naturally, Catarina was not happy about this. She tried to kill Lauren, only stopping because the divinity still caused burns. When it came out to the heads of the Pious that Lauren was the angel child they had been searching for, Catarina gladly sold her out. She escaped the Pious soon after, searching to hone her skills and to leave behind an odd feeling of guilt. Years passed before Catarina was back, still plagued by that guilt. That was when she stumbled across the church that Lauren was being kept in, the ground consecrated to keep demons out and to create the barrier so the angel couldn't escape. Every day she found herself walking by the church to look in, to see the girl apparently sleeping peacefully in a crystalline barrier, and each day she felt pangs get stronger and stronger. Finally, she broke in one day, intent on yelling at Lauren to leave her alone. The slight divinity kept her from bursting into flames and only merely burned her feet. But the one thing she didn't expect was Lauren to open her eyes. She was hearing her, and the bond that she had created reached through the barrier to wake her back up. The magic slowly started to unravel, freeing Lauren to Catarina's waiting arms. While she wanted to kill her still… it was time to bring Lauren out of the town and figure out what was going on.
Personality: She's very self centered. Lauren saving her life? How dare a human save her- oh worse, it's an angel! The sparring sessions aren't going fast enough. Better go find work that would mean more fighting. The angel not dying and being annoying to her? Sell that girl out so she can be free. She barely thinks of others, more interested in making herself happy.
Catarina also is a bit wild. Fighting, sex, drinking, it's all good to her. "More" is her keyword, and the more she has the better. A good day for her is a hard day bounty hunting, a death or two with some of the meat down her throat, a person in her bed (she's not picky if it's male, female, other, human, or not), and plenty of alcohol to get her good and buzzed.
Despite all of this, she has a sense of right and wrong. Selling Lauren out was the first time it tripped her feelings of guilt. She knew she had done something wrong, even if she wasn't going to let herself own up to it. Eventually she does, and it causes her to put herself in harms way just to assuage her own guilt. She would turn down jobs because they would harm someone harmless, telling herself that it was because it wouldn't be fun. But it was because it would be wrong.
Catarina is very sexual. She finds her body a weapon of its own right, from the way it moves to the pleasures it can bring. If she can bring a conversation to sexual activities, she will, even if she's doing so teasingly. She views most of those she comes across as food, to bed and feed off of.
She also has a lot of feelings of low self worth. She wasn't a good succubus for her mother. Not a good wolf demon for her father. She can't cast magic. She can't run as fast as the wind. Many of the demons she could fight would wipe the floor with her, then have enough time to pick their teeth with her bones. While she's very smart in battle, her mind says she's not good enough. And she never will be. She's just a lowly crossbreed.
What drives her is the fact she's still alive. Most other crossbreeds she has seen haven't made it past 100. That's the average life of one, after all. They're weak. But due to her quick mind and the worldly knowledge the Pious taught her, she's managed to quadruple that. What else, then, could she do? Who else could she prove wrong? According to others, she's just a worthless crossbreed. Not just that, but of the physically frailest and magically worthless demons. She wants to push herself past that. To become not only a bounty hunter that's constantly fighting, but to become the best bounty hunter. Despite feeling she could never be good enough, she's driven enough to try.
She's relatively quick to anger due to all of this. Her guilt picks at her, and she rebells against it. She shouldn't feel guilty, after all. She's a demon, that's what they do. But her past learning next to humans gives her a human sense of right and wrong. Her feelings of worthlessness combined with the knowledge she's lived longer than any other crossbreed make her angry at herself. She shouldn't be feeling worthless like this. She's done so much better than any other of her kind. Anyone that makes her feel that way is a recipient of that anger. She's not one to wallow in feeling worthless, but rather lash out at them.
Abilities: She is slightly faster, stronger, and heals slightly faster than a human. As a note, she does not have any magic, and thus cannot incite lust or make others lust after her as most succubi can.
